A Legal Scandal

Want a good laugh? I suggest you check out the recent codswallop concerning the M.P.s expenses scandal that the BBC is talking abotut.

Really, what can you say about this scandal that hasn’t been already said? I am a little tired hearing about how they all spent our money on luxury bathroom accessories

About the only good thing about it is that it makes me feel better when I get a speeding ticket—indeed, suddenly I have all kinds of ammunition at my disposal to get me out of it. If a policeman stops you for speeding I advise you to do the same as me, because it really does work. Here is proof!

The conversation in question occurred a few weeks back; I had just been stopped for doing 33 miles-per-hour in a 30 mile-per-hour limit area. I was able to think on my feet and that was the only thing that saved me.

“Do you realize how fast you were going?” asked the officer. His face was exceedingly grim looking, like he’d just crawled out of a mine and was just getting used to the light and the world.

“Yes I do,” I said, “and do you want to know why?”

Fortunately he did. Luck.

“Because,” I said, “I was just thinking about the M.P. expenses scandal and it drove me into a rage, and therefore I found myself going a bit faster than usual. Apologies, but it isn’t my fault, it’s theirs!”

I was sure I was done for, but the opposite happened! The officer completely agreed with me! We then had a long and drawn out conversation where the officer and I connected on a number of levels never previously even conceived. The officer said he thought the scandal was a hideous thing–it had affected him too–and let me off a fine. How good is that? So it seems the M.P.s are alright for something after all. Take advantage while you can. This excuse may not last forever.
