The perfect day - books and tunes!
I had a day off today and I’ve literally just finished reading the Wrong Boy by Willy Russell and I just have to say it was so brilliant! Seriously, one of the most uplifting and funny books I’ve read all year. It’s all about a character called Raymond who is basically a hapless teenage anti-hero type who has the worst luck in the world. My friend lent me this book after we watched Shirley valentine together which is also by Willy Russell and this is just as good if not better to be honest. I love it when you get a book that’s funny and sweet but also has a bit of bite to it as well. Lately I’ve been doing a job which is only down the road from me. Yeah I know what a luxury! It’s great but the only downside is that because I don’t have to catch a train to work anymore I don’t have as much time to read, as that’s where I used to do it. So I’ve been saying to myself “right whenever there’s nothing on TV but I’m still sitting there ’cause I can’t be bothered to move, I’m going to switch it off and read my book”, and it’s really worked. I think the trick is to get a book that you can’t put down and the Wrong Boy is definitely one of them. Also it’s written in the form of letters from Raymond (the central character) to Morrissey from the Smiths. I’ve loved The Smiths for years since my older brother got me in to them so reading The Wrong Boy has been the ultimate combination! Also it’s made me dig out all my old Smiths records so I’ve had the most brilliant day reading, and listening to some classic tunes as well. Ah perfect!
One last thing before I go, I have decided to finally take the plunge and book the appointment to get that tattoo that I had gotten when I was a teenager removed. It has been annoying me for a really long time now, evidently I have grown out of that whole defiant stage now. However, I was looking on the page for tattoo removal and I am uncertain if it will look better afterwards, some of the photos are a little bit unconvincing! I am actually really worried now…
